I live in a red state in a fairly rural area...not a major metro. The home improvement store (national chain) has a security system at the main entrance where you're video'd as u walk in. You can see the image on a TV screen up on a the wall. The system drops a yellow box over your face and captures your image. Apparently they need that in order for me to buy a weed whacker or a couple bags of mulch.

Struck me how deeply embedded this stuff has become given its accepted by all customers in a place that is pretty damn conservative politically and a store where people go who do things with their own two hands.

But it's for your own protection! What if a crazy person wanted to come in the store and shoot it up? The computers will save us! LOL. They'll use any excuse to monitor and control.

Yes the same here in Florida. If you want to use the self check out at Publix, they take your picture. I stopped doing that and will be inconvenienced by waiting for a human checker to be available. Not a big inconvenience, but many will just add their faces to Big Information out of impatience.

I will never use self checkout. Human contact is important, as are those jobs.

At the Lowe’s near my house, it’s the only way to check out.

That's awful. Can you go somewhere else?

The CCP has been controlling our nation for decades now. The Biden family alone has made hundreds of millions to sell out this country. Many GOP as well.
