Watcher is a piece of shit. The UC system pays this asshole around 1.2-1.5 million dollars a year as an academic chair/Hospitalist. The market rate for an academic physician is around $250-$450 a year. If you are the chair of your program, you would typically receive other benefits above your base salary, many chair positions also include bonuses, incentives, and benefits, such as healthcare, retirement contributions, and sometimes housing or relocation assistance. But no one makes north of $600-700k in this type of role.

UCSF is paid more money from the NIH than anyone else. Wachter may have the title of chair but he's actually a salesman for UCSF so what he makes is essentially commission.
